Bargain Buys, Sell Highs, and Waiver Guys – NFL Week 8

Week 8 if the 2025 NFL season throws us a fantasy curveball, with six teams on bye. It’s the most teams on bye in one week this season, with a maximum of four teams sitting out in each of the remaining weeks of the year.

That’s mixed up my week a little, with a special “Byemageddon” waiver article for PFSN being released yesterday. You can check that out here, while I’ll focus a little more on some savvy stashes below.

Also, for those looking to hit the fantasy trade market, my “Week 8 Buy Low, Sell High” article is available here.

Below, I’ve listed eight players, some of whom can be plugged straight into your lineup this week, and some who should be stashed for a later date.

Week 8 Waiver Adds – Jaxson Dart, QB, New York Giants

At this point, there should be no doubting Jaxson Dart. I has him down as a “sit” in Week 7, due to a horrendous matchup against the Denver Broncos, but he instead put up his highest fantasy week of the year.

Having excelled against both Denver and the Philadelphia Eagles in the past two weeks, without star receiver Malik Nabers, he should be backed as a weekly QB1. That’s where I’ll have him, regardless of who he is facing, which this week, is the Eagles again.

Tyler Allgeier, RB, Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons host the Miami Dolphins this weekend. The Dolphins defense has allowed huge games to Quinshon Judkins, Kimani Vidal, and Rico Dowdle in the last three weeks.

Bijan Robinson will dominate touches, but in a likely run-heavy approach, Tyler Allgeier should get plenty of touches. His power running style and goal-line prowess could see him put up big numbers, while his floor should be pushing flex-worthy.

With running back a constant need, regardless of bye weeks, pickings are slim if you need somebody this week.

Brashard Smith, RB, Kansas City Chiefs

Brashard Smith is both a “Byemageddon” plug-and-play option at RB or Flex, and a savvy stash for later in the year. Smith’s increased rushing opportunities in Week 7 were mostly a product of the Chiefs’ blowout win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

He will almost certainly be relegated back to pass-catching work in Week 8, but that alone holds value in PPR leagues. If you’re desperate for an RB this week, and Allgeier is taken, Smith might be the next best option. If you’re sorted for RBs this week, consider stashing Smith if you have space.

Tez Johnson, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tez Johnson has broken out recently as a downfield threat for Baker Mayfield. With Mike Evans and Emeka Egbuka both returning for Week 7, Johnson’s fantasy value appeared short-lived.

Unfortunately, it looks as though Evans will be set for another significant spell on the sidelines after he went down with a concussion and a hamstring injury. It’s since been revealed that Evans broke his collarbone in the fall, and could potentially be out for the season.

That puts Johnson firmly back in flex territory this week, and possibly long-term, though he’ll be behind both Egbuka and Cade Otton in targets.

Luther Burden III, WR, Chicago Bears

Luther Burden III was a highly-rated receiver entering the draft, with many believing he should have been picked in the first round. That didn’t happen, but his early-second-round draft capital makes him an intriguing prospect down the stretch.

Chicago’s early bye may have nullified the post-bye rookie bounce that many players, particularly wide receivers experience. Nevertheless, the explosive receiver should see more opportunities as the season progresses.

There continue to be trade rumors surrounding D.J. Moore, but even if he stays, Burden is worth a stash as a high-upside playmaker moving forward.

Oronde Gadsden II, TE, Los Angeles Chargers

Just when it looked like the Chargers suddenly had too many receiving options, rookie tight end Oronde Gadsden II exploded onto the scene in Week 6. Over the past two weeks, Gadsden has caught 14 of his 17 targets for 232 yards and a touchdown, and is the TE2 overall.

He’ll be a priority waiver add this week, so you’ll need to part with some FAAB budget, but he could prove a long-term fantasy star.

Cade Otton, TE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

I pushed Cade Otton as astreaming option everywhere last week, with the caveat that he would be a floor play if Evans and Egbuka returned. They did, but, as mentioned earlier, Evans now faces more time away with a broken collarbone.

That leaves Otton, who shone in Monday night’s loss to the Detroit Lions, as a stellar waiver add once more. The tight end was targeted nine times against Detroit, catching seven for 65 yards, and could do far better this weekend and beyond.

Colston Loveland, TE, Chicago Bears

Colston Loveland remains a high-value stash for those who have deep enough rosters. The rookie first-round pick is in a similar situation to Burden, with plenty of target competition, but is clearly rated very highly in Chicago.

Loveland has seen season-high numbers in both targets and catches for two straight weeks, and will be fantasy relevant in no time if that progression continues. A first-round pass catcher in a Ben Johnson offense is as good a bet as any.

That’s all for this week’s Buy Lows, Sell Highs, and Waiver Adds this week. I’ll be posting my starts and sits for Week 8 on Thursday, which will include a more in-depth “streamers” article for PFSN.
