Fantasy Football Starts and Sits for NFL Week 14

NFL week 14 is here and for some, that means one final chance to sneak into their fantasy football playoffs.

For those that are already assured of a playoff place, this week’s lineup decisions carry a little less weight, as you look at your team with week 15 in mind.

I wrote a piece for LastWordOnSports.com this week, covering five split backfields and their fantasy playoff outlook, for those that are feeling confident.

For this weekend though, here are three players you should feel confident starting, two of whom may even be on waivers, and three that I’m less confident of.

This week, I’ve added a boom/bust waiver-add for those that need something more high risk/reward this weekend.

As always, decisions will depend on the rest of your roster, and “sits” aren’t necessarily players that you should bench, they’re just players to expect less from than you normally would.

Starts and Sits for NFL Week 14

Start – Isaac Guerendo (49ers)

Isaac Guerendo became the top waiver wire priority this week after both Christian McCaffrey and Jordan Mason were placed on injured reserve after the team’s humiliation in Buffalo.

Whilst that isn’t great news for 49ers fans or McCaffrey owners, Guerendo was my RB4 in the 2024 draft and I’m very excited to see him get his chance.

In the two games that Guerendo has been given 10+ carries this season, he recorded 10 for 99 yards in week six, followed by 14 for 85 yards and a touchdown in week 8.

This week, Guerendo faces a Bears run defense that has allowed 5.1 yards/attempt over their last five games, the most in the NFL.

Start – Brandin Cooks (Cowboys)

According to ESPN, Brandin Cooks is rostered in only 13.3% of their leagues, which isn’t surprising given that prior to week 13, he’d been out for eight weeks.

On his first game back, though, Cooks was targeted seven times, catching three for 16 yards and a touchdown.

Whilst that stat line isn’t particularly impressive, it should encourage fantasy managers that Cooks was targeted so many times after such a long absence.

Against one of the most impressive offenses in the league, it would be a surprise if Cooks didn’t see similar opportunities on Monday night. This time around though, he faces a Bengals defense that has allowed the second-most passing yards in the league over their last five games.

In his second week back from injury, Cooks should be flex-worthy this week for anyone that is struggling with bye weeks.

Start – Elijah Moore (Browns)

Elijah Moore is another player that is likely on your waiver wire this week, but is one more solid week away from being picked up everywhere ahead of the fantasy playoffs.

With six teams on bye, some managers might have to dip into the waiver wire just to fill their lineups this week.

Elijah Moore had 14 targets in week 13, as Jameis Winston continues to air it out at will. In fact, since Winston took over in week eight, Moore has averaged 9.6 targets/game.

Moore isn’t threatening to become a top NFL receiver just yet, his target numbers are more a result of Winston’s wild approach to playing quarterback, as well as an injury to Cedric Tillman.

Regardless, his targets are giving him a solid platform to produce for fantasy and has helped him to two WR2 finishes in his last three weeks.

Sit – Chuba Hubbard (Panthers)

This is the second time that Chuba Hubbard has made the “sit” list this season. The first time, he was held to just 58 rushing yards against Kansas City, but saved his week with a goal-line touchdown.

This time around, Hubbard once again faces a top defense in the Eagles, but may have lost goal-line work to his rookie teammate, Jonathon Brooks.

In week 13, Hubbard was given just 12 carries, his lowest number since week two, as he split rushing work with Brooks. Last weekend also saw Brooks take both carries inside the Tampa Bay ten yard line, as well as all three running back targets.

Moving forward, if Hubbard isn’t guaranteed goal-line or receiving work, he’ll be relying solely on rushing efficiency for fantasy production, something the Eagles defense is unlikely to facilitate.

Add in that the Eagles are one of the best teams in the NFL right now and Sunday’s game script may leave very little opportunity for Hubbard and Brooks to fight over.

Sit – Garrett Wilson (Jets)

I’m not saying you should bench Wilson, he obviously possesses far more upside than anyone you might be considering flexing this week. Besides, if Wilson is an easy drop for you, then your team is likely already in the playoffs anyway.

But the stats are worrying.

In his last three games, Wilson has finished as the WR42, WR67 and WR54. He is now regularly out-targeted by Davante Adams and this week, faces a Dolphins defense that has allowed the second-fewest fantasy points/game to wide receivers this year.

When you look at the season as a whole, Wilson has only recorded four top-24 finishes in fantasy, in 12 games. Perhaps more worrying, is that despite solid target numbers throughout the year, Wilson has reached double-digit half-ppr points in only half of his games.

Whether or not to play Wilson this weekend should depend on your circumstances. If you need a someone to step up with a huge week, Wilson has more potential than most, but if you need a solid floor play, you might want to look elsewhere for a flex.

Sit – Rachaad White (Buccaneers)

Rachaad White is now unquestionably the number two back in Tampa Bay, having finally been usurped by Bucky Irving, who out-carried him 25-11 in week 13.

White’s fantasy value has been kept alive by touchdowns since week seven, he has an impressive six scores in six games over that stretch. With Irving taking more and more work away from White though, those scoring opportunities will start to dwindle.

Whilst his 76 rushing yards last weekend was respectable, it was White’s highest rushing total of the season and came against a below-average Giants run defense.

This week, the Buccaneers welcome the Raiders, who are tied with Denver for the fewest rushing yards allowed per attempt over their last five games.

Hail Mary Waiver Add – Kendre Miller

*Caution, incredibly volatile and high-risk player*

I’m introducing this category this week, we’ll see if it sticks. This is for those that need someone in their lineup to explode, but that have a roster full of floor plays.

Kendre Miller has made two appearances this season, carrying the ball nine times. I get how awful that sounds, because that’s how awful it is, but bear with me.

Miller has spent the entire season outside those two appearances on the injury list, with former head coach Dennis Allen seemingly frustrated with the player, regularly calling him out in press conferences.

His most recent placement on injured reserve, is rumored to have confused members of the Saints coaching staff, who didn’t believe the injury was that serious.

With Allen gone, interim head coach Darren Rizzi has been talking up Miller this week, saying that the second-year back is ready for more opportunities moving forward.

An interim head coach looking to put his own stamp on things, an explosive running back with a point to prove and a poor Giants run defense, all point to a potential break-out game.

Taysom Hill is out of the picture, at least for now, so the Saints are in need of a new play-maker on offense, Miller could very well be that guy.

That’s it for this one, I hope you’ve found some actionable advice. To everyone needing a week 14 win, I wish you the best of luck!
