Week two provided plenty of upsets, leaving some teams scratching their heads, and others, perhaps daring to dream bigger. Here is my quick recap of week two, and the fantasy football moves I’m looking to make ahead of week three.

Rookies Make Their Mark
After just one catch for four yards in his NFL debut in Buffalo, eyes were on Marvin Harrison Jr going into week two. By the end of the first quarter, Harrison had four receptions for a hundred and thirty yards and two touchdowns. What a difference a week makes.
He effectively took the rest of the game off, finishing as the WR1 overall for the week, with his first quarter numbers alone.
Elsewhere, Malik Nabers torched a hapless Washington secondary to record both his first hundred yard NFL game and his first NFL touchdown. The rookies finished the week as the WR1 and WR3 on the week, respectively.
Receiving Treatment
Injuries once again made the headlines this past weekend as several top-tier receivers gave fantasy managers cause for concern. Justin Jefferson, Amon-Ra St.Brown, Deebo Samuel and Cooper Kupp all picked up knocks, with Deebo and Kupp both likely to miss several weeks.
Isiah Pacheco also faces an extensive period on the sidelines after fracturing his right fibula in Kansas City’s win over Cincinnati, sparking a flurry of waiver wire activity for KC back-up running backs.
The biggest injury scare of the round, though, was suffered by Tua Tagovailoa on Thursday night. It’s still unclear if we’ll see him on a football field again after the third diagnosed concussion of his career, I just hope he makes the right call for himself and his family.
Maybe Next Year
I don’t like to get too far ahead with predictions, but it would seem at this point that the battle for the number one overall pick may be between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos. Whilst this was probably predictable before the season started, I think the Patriots have shown enough to be taken out of this conversation, whilst the Giants defense should give them a shot in enough games to get themselves a few wins.
Denver, on the other hand, were high enough on rookie QB Bo Nix to take him with their twelfth overall pick, and seem to also believe that he can single-handedly carry their offense on his back in his first season.
Nix has not only attempted the third most pass-attempts in the league through two games, he is also the teams leading rusher with sixty yards on the ground. Javonte Williams leads the team in carries, but is still thirty-eighth in rush attempts, league-wide, behind four different quarterbacks.
Despite all of those pass attempts, Nix is one of only four starting quarterbacks yet to throw a touchdown in the opening two weeks, alongside fellow rookies Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams, and second-year disappointment Bryce Young. None of those three players though have amassed Nix’s four interceptions in that time, only just topping Nix with five between them.
Carolina appear set to continue their abysmal run of results, but at least this year they have a number one pick to potentially look forward to. The benching of Bryce Young for week three though does make things a bit more interesting. Andy Dalton should be able to provide at least serviceable quarterback play with a number of talented receivers on the roster.
Demolition In Dallas
On a more positive note, several teams upset the odds on Sunday, but none more so than the New Orleans Saints, who bullied the Dallas Cowboys in their own stadium, from start to finish.
Alvin Kamara made the marry list in my last-minute draft tips this year and has more than paid off for anyone who took that advice. Kamara is the RB1 through the first two weeks of the season, with five touchdowns already to his name.
The Baltimore Ravens are next up for Dallas, so plenty of work to do for them this week. As for the Saints, Klint Kubiak looks to be working wonders with this offense and it’s incredibly fun to watch. They face Philadelphia at home in what looks like a must-watch week three match-up.
Fantasy Moves For Week Three

Most fantasy talk following the weekend has understandably centered around waiver adds for all the back-ups likely to see game time, following all of the previously mentioned injuries. If you’re looking for more long term adds though, here are a few potential buy-low candidates this week.
Travis Kelce (Kansas City)
Kelce seems like the most obvious buy-low in the league right now, but I very nearly left him out here. For one, whoever drafted Kelce invested too much draft capital into him to enthusiastically sell low after just two weeks. On top of this, Rashee Rice has more than proven himself and it’s no given that Kelce’s dominance of targets in this offense, ever comes back.
The first two weeks of the season, however, are just not an accurate reflection of Kelce’s importance to his team and to his quarterback, Rice or no Rice. With Pacheco now sidelined until further notice, I’m expecting Andy Reid to manufacture some more touches for Kelce, as none of the suggested Pacheco replacements will be as effective as the real thing.
You may well encounter some resistance, probably some hard no’s, but it’s worth testing the water with Kelce owners this week.
Carolina Receivers… (Carolina)
This one might sound counter-intuitive, the idea is to score points after all. Whilst I still expect neither to be a game-changer for your roster, I think that both Diontae Johnson and Adam Thielen could both be flex-worthy options with veteran Andy Dalton under center in Carolina.
It’s not a sexy take, but the Panthers are always going to be playing from behind and Dalton is good enough to find his talented receivers. Whichever player you prefer, I think both could be useful players as the bye weeks roll around, especially in PPR leagues.
Amari Cooper (Cleveland)
This one is just a bet on talent. Cooper has been un-startable (apparently that’s not a word) through two weeks, struggling to find chemistry with Deshaun Watson and being out-scored by teammate Jerry Jeudy.
Cooper remains Cleveland’s best receiver though and it’s only a matter of time before things start to turn around, making him a sound investment at the right price.
Unlike with Kelce, Cooper’s current fantasy owners didn’t draft him as one of the best in his position and will likely be more open to offers, especially if they’ve started 0-2 with him on their team.
I’ll be back with my week three, standout players article before Sunday rolls around. Enjoy the rest of your week.
